Is it possible for you to elaborate on this statement?
_“Use the field template identifier value from product settings if the field template identifier is not specified.”_

Im trying to import a baseproduct that already exists in litium but it throws an error saying _“Field template with identifier was not found…”_
Do I have to specify the fieldtemplate even though its just an update?

Yes, but this is more that I dont understand exactly what to make of

I think you have conflicting baseproducts so the one you are trying to update has a different template Id than the one existing. And the one that you are trying to store has a template Id that does not exist in the system and it throws error in this case.
_“Use the field template identifier value from product settings if the field template identifier is not specified.”_ If we don’t have template Id on the product then it will use the template Id from the ProductImportSetting.
