Does Litium Integration Kit support file-based integrations only, or is it possible to use it with REST APIs (for example)?

Integration kit only contains code for file based imports into Litium.

Any other connections (exports/REST) need to be added by the project.

Does it include some kind of user interface with status information (recent runs, succeded/failed, logs etc)?

There is no UI but processed files are moved into directories: Archive/Ignore/Error together with possible exception messages so that gives feedback on what happened during import of that specific file.
