Data Service search in Customer module is slower compared to lucene search

Data Service search in Customer module is slower compared to lucene search, is there any best practice we should follow

DataService is hitting the DB directly and Lucene search is getting information from cache. If using DataService on public site make sure you cache the result so no unnecessary hit to DB next time.
