DataService query MultiField

I read some topics related to filtering entities extracted with the dataservice using a MultiField as Filter, but back then this was not supported. What is the current status of this feature?

I have a MultiField on my Variants and I would like to filter out the Variants based on a field in that MultiField. Or do anyone have any other approach on this issue?
