Hi, we are just starting to populate our new Litium7 site using channels to differentiate a few things instead of having multiple websites, but we just found a big release blocker for us and needs to know if this is a bug or intended behavior.
When previewing block of a certain channel lest say SwedenSV channel, the preview and the block adding/editing GUI shows all blocks for all channels, this will be a nightmare for the editors and if this is the intended behavior, we need to switch back to the old website based structure as soon as possible.
That channel selector is not connected to the Edit interface and all blocks are shown there for all channels.
For previewing you will need to go the specifik page for preview.
We are looking into removing Channel selector from the Edit interface in coming versions.
Yes, this is good for sysadmins but terrible for editors and actual everyday site management, please, please! Consider adding a new filter button then, at least in the BlockEditView to allow to only display the relevant blocks. A simple dropdown.
Is such an easy thing to add, and would help a lot of people, I can promise that. We for one, basically canât launch without it, the content manager whould kill us, , so we need to move back to having multiple websites if this is a âWill not fixâ
Yes, but I see now that the âpreviewâ displays the Published version for the selected channels block, so that part kind of works but not as a preview, but a âcurrentviewâ this is confusing cause its a preview everywhere else,
But again thatâs not the real blocker. For bigger sites like ours with different channel/market teams, the channel filter for blocks is not a ânice to haveâ but a real blocker. And it would be a shame having to use multiple website just to have different blocks per channel
When previewing only the block that is active for the channel should be visible, if more blocks visible than the blocks that are active one the selected channel the behavior is wrong and probably a bug.
What part of the UI are you referring to with the block adding/editing or BlockEditView, can you add a small screen capture so we know and talk about correct view?
Thanks again everyone for taking the time to help out, Iâll gather more information about the preview, but its possible thatâs just a local bug, seem to work on your demo site.
But the real issue, if we canât use this filter here, to view active blocks for that channel, we need another filter.
Our Finnish, Swedish, English, and Norwegian site is exactly the same except for language and blocks, If team Finland, want to edit its blocks for the start page, there are 20 banners and sliders listed in this edit mode, all similar, some sitewide, some specific for them, and some specific for other channels with no visual indication what blocks are active for there channel, with a triple step process to verify, it will be a massive mess for the content teams
To get correct understanding of the problem, is it the 20 banners that is the problem or that the banner missing visual indication if they are active on the selected channel?
The missing vissual indikation. There âmustâ be a option to only show block by active channel if it to make sense for us to use this awsome new functionality else we are forced to use multiple websites that are nearly identical.
We just saw the channel dropdown on this view and assumed that it whould follow the same logic as the rest of the admin.
What about, just in this module, add a extra option at the top of the channel filter âAll Channelsâ. To have the same base functionality as now, but not as limiting as removing it all together? Or just add a checkbox: Filter list by selected channel?
Thank you for your information, I think I see your point. It is difficult to work when having lots of blocks and you donât know what block is activated in what channel.
Just a small note, when previewing, the draft version of both page and blocks should be used. Please file a separate bug if it does not show draft version.
